Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to email me with your comments or suggestions. I don't promise to respond to all of them, but I'll read them. You can also sign my shiny new guestbook if you don't feel like bothering with email.

Q: Can I use these generators to give me ideas for my novel/short story/RPG? I'll give you credit/money/a link!
A: Sure, and while acknowledgement is nice it's not required. All I've provided here is a set of tools for coming up with your own ideas; anything worthwhile you make with those tools is yours. (Of course, if you're using the fannish generators, we're both messing with other people's property and you need to remember to give them credit.)
Q: How did you write all these generators?
A: Well, most of them I didn't. I used Steven Savage's PHP templates, or in one case a script from another site that I asked permission to modify, and I created my own data sets to plug into them. You can do the same; Seventh Sanctum has a couple of helpful tutorials as well as the templates. I did write the Palette Generator from scratch, mostly by trial and error and poring over the PHP manual.
Q: I have an idea for a generator; will you make it for me?
A: I might. :D Caveats: If it's more complicated than the ones I already have up, I probably don't have the PHP skills. If it involves images rather than text, it'll have to wait until I figure out a good way of doing that, so don't hold your breath. Other than that, feel free to write to me.
Q: What if my idea is complicated? :(
A: You should go to Seventh Sanctum and post in the forum there. Lots of generator geeks are hanging about looking for projects!
